Q&A with Ministry Quest Leadership Team

Ministry Quest (MQ) aims to disciple and empower young people to become the next generation of MB church leadership in Manitoba. Pastors and church staff nominate students in grades 11 and 12 who demonstrate strong leadership skills and an interest in ministry to participate in this 8-month program. The experience begins in October with a retreat, where students and the MQ team worship together, reflect on biblical call stories, engage in learning activities, and make valuable connections with one another. Afterwards, students are paired with a mentor from their church who meets with them to delve deeper into questions and discernment of their calling. To close the program, students and the MQ team gather for a final retreat to reflect on their learning and growth.

To ring in another year of Ministry Quest, we asked two MQ team members to share what this experience means to them.
Jodie Dyck
Why are you passionate about training young leaders?
I am passionate about training young leaders because they are the future leaders of our churches and ministries. I see so much hope and passion in this generation of youth, and I am excited to see them following Jesus. What an honour to be able to invest in this generation and see them grow in their desire and confidence to lead.
Why is Ministry Quest important to you?
I see so much value in a program like Ministry Quest! I especially value the intentional opportunity to disciple youth and young people. It's also so cool to see young leaders come together and realize, "Wow, there are other people like me!" Seeing these youth, who feel called into ministry, come together and work together and grow in faith together is truly incredible.
What encouragement would you give to young people considering ministry and global missions?
Don't belittle or underestimate the call you sense God laying on your heart! Press into that. Find a mentor and start talking about it. Explore your giftings. Find ways to lead and serve in your local church. And above all, be rooted in and continue to grow in your love and passion for Jesus - that's ultimately what it's all about.

Why are you passionate about training young leaders?
Honestly, it’s because of the ripple effect. When a leader truly understands who they are in Christ—their strengths, their uniqueness, and how they impact others—it changes everything around them. If I can help a leader grow, I’m actually helping every person they lead and every situation they step into.
I love seeing leaders model what it looks like to walk humbly with Jesus. It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about being a lifelong learner who is willing to share the journey. And honestly? I just love those "aha" moments—watching a young person suddenly realize how God is inviting them to live in true freedom. There’s nothing better than that.
Why is Ministry Quest important to you?
What I love about Ministry Quest is how intentional it is. We aren't just talking about leadership in a vacuum; we’re helping people pay attention to how God is specifically inviting them to serve the church—whether that’s as a pastor, a missionary, or a leader in their community.
It’s also unique because it brings in the community and the church to help "call out" those gifts in people. It’s about mentoring and listening to others, recognizing that discernment is something we do together, not just by ourselves.
What encouragement would you give to young people considering ministry and global missions?
God loves taking regular, ordinary people and showing them how their unique story can impact someone else’s journey toward Him. You don't have to be perfect; you just have to be willing to let God use who He created you to be.
Jodie Dyck is the Youth Pastor at Lakeview Community Church and she is passionate about investing in the next generation through meaningful mentorship and discipleship. Along with working directly in youth ministry, Jodie also spent a number of years teaching high school, providing her with valuable opportunities to connect with students in a classroom setting. One of the highlights of her current job is watching youth and young adults grow in their unique giftings and leadership styles, and above all, in their love for Jesus.
A handful of years ago, Jodie was one of the original Ministry Quest students to be part of the program, and she is excited to be part of the Ministry Quest team once again.
Cam Priebe is a leadership coach who is passionate about helping leaders discover their strengths, embrace their God-given potential, and navigate their unique leadership journeys. He has invested hundreds of hours coaching leaders in both one-on-one and group settings across churches, universities, and organizational contexts.
Cam previously served as Provincial Director for the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba and was Director of Ministry Quest from 2006–2009. His connection to Ministry Quest runs deep because of its commitment to investing in young leaders who will have Kingdom impact. He believes in helping emerging leaders understand their identity in Christ, discern God's calling on their lives, and respond to that calling with purpose and confidence.
