At the end of May, Manitoba pastors, ministry staff, and their spouses gathered for ReFresh: Pastors and Spouses Retreat. This time away is about supporting and caring for our pastors and leaders. Through the theme of “Rest for your Soul: Living Freely, Leading Lightly,” we experienced a meaningful time of connection and renewal. This retreat is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and embrace what brings refreshment, whether in worship, in sessions, in solo time, or in conversation around the table. Through the blessing of being with Jesus and the encouragement of being with his people, we were refreshed.
CCMBC National Director, Cam Stuart, led us through Matthew 11:28-30, which says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
His encouragement to us was to maintain a healthy spiritual life in the middle of the challenges of our lives. We considered the health of our souls and the impact that has on our lives and on our churches. We looked at four indicators of a healthy soul: Trust, Surrender, Enjoyment, and Rest. Through thoughtful teaching, deliberate pauses for reflection, and considerate conversation with each other, we experienced the gift of rest.
One of the highlights of this year’s retreat was connecting with new pastors attending for the first time. The fellowship of community formed through ministry and developed over time was on display as new pastors experienced encouragement and meaningful connection.
New for this year’s retreat was the location. We hosted ReFresh at Elkhorn Resort and Spa in Riding Mountain National Park. The natural beauty of this setting, the easy access to shops in the townsite, and the surrounding wildlife were some of the highlights.
The retreat also included plenty of time for rest and connection. We enjoyed a spirited night of trivia, hiking, golfing, and time in the pool and hot tub. Talking over meals, laughing together, and time in prayer are always highlights of our times together.
Thank you to our churches for supporting and sending your pastors to ReFresh. Thank you to Cam Stuart and CCMBC for your encouragement. Thank you to Ryan Waschuk and your team for leading us in worship. Thank you to our supporters who donated gifts for giveaways during the event. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
