Nuts & Bolts October 2023

Updated: 4 days ago

On October 23, 2024, MBCM hosted Nuts & Bolts at Westwood Community Church, gathering pastors and leaders for a day dedicated to fellowship, inspiration, and practical equipping.

The first half of the day was led by Walter Fast, who presented on Christian funerals. Drawing from personal experience of conducting 100 + funerals, Walter spoke and opened up table conversations about the unique role of funerals in honouring a life while embodying the Christian faith, as well as the delicate nature of addressing loss in various cultural contexts and stressed the importance of adapting to these differences thoughtfully.

The second half of the day was led by Stefan Klassen, who represented a small task force mandated to gather information about the partnership between MBCM and Canadian Mennonite University (CMU). This portion invited pastors and leaders to offer feedback and share their experiences on their relationship and engagement with CMU, which will be compiled into a report for the MBCM Board. Key questions asked included:

  • To what extent do you engage with CMU, (send students, invite professors, attend events) and why or why not?

  • What experiences do you have with the school that would be beneficial for our MBCM board to reflect on and learn about as they seek to discern the next phase of our partnership?

All MBCM pastors are invited to provide feedback using this short survey Feedback Survey .This invitation is extended to those who attended the event and those who couldn’t make it.

We would also like to invite you to our next event, the 2024 Council of Representatives meeting on November 16th at Philadelphia Eritrean Church in Winnipeg.

The Council of Representatives meeting is an annual business meeting hosted by the MBCM board. We hope for representation from all of our churches with an invitation specifically to church moderators, lead pastors, and, when possible, one other. If your church does not currently have a moderator and/or lead pastor, we invite you to designate someone else within your congregation who would attend. We look forward to seeing you there!
